Reports To: Director of Community Relations

Position Summary: The Foundation for Homeless Veterans (FFHV) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Outreach Specialist to engage with the community, identify homeless veterans in need, and connect them to FFHV’s services. This role involves building relationships with veterans, community organizations, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and facilitate access to FFHV’s programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Community Engagement:
    • Conduct outreach activities to identify and engage homeless veterans in the community.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, shelters, and other service providers.
    • Represent FFHV at community events, meetings, and forums to raise awareness about available services.
  2. Client Interaction:
    • Build trust and rapport with homeless veterans through consistent and compassionate engagement.
    • Provide information about FFHV’s programs and services, answering any questions veterans may have.
    • Assist veterans in completing intake forms and applications for services.
  3. Resource Coordination:
    • Connect veterans with appropriate resources, including housing, healthcare, employment, and social services.
    • Follow up with veterans to ensure they receive the necessary services and support.
    • Coordinate with internal teams to facilitate seamless service delivery.
  4. Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities and client interactions.
    • Collect data on the needs and challenges faced by homeless veterans to inform program development.
    • Prepare regular reports on outreach efforts and outcomes.
  5. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with FFHV staff and community partners to ensure coordinated care.
    • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
    • Communicate effectively with veterans, their families, and service providers.
  6. Advocacy:
    • Advocate on behalf of homeless veterans to ensure they receive the necessary services and support.
    • Educate the community about the challenges faced by homeless veterans and the importance of supporting them.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in outreach, community engagement, or a related role, preferably with a focus on homeless populations or veterans.
  • Strong understanding of community resources and services available to homeless veterans.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate, patient, and dedicated to supporting veterans.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position based in Oceanside, CA.
  • Frequent travel within the community to conduct outreach activities.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
